80th Anniversary, Battle of the Bulge

This December marks 80 years since one of the most pivotal battles of World War II: the Battle of the Bulge. Fought from December 16, 1944, to January 25, 1945, this grueling winter campaign in the Ardennes forest tested the courage and resilience of Allied forces, including countless brave Americans. The German counterattack came out of the densely wooded Ardennes region of Belgium, and the experienced German troops wrought havoc on the American line, creating a triangular “bulge” 60 miles deep and 50 miles wide along the Allied front.

📜 Did You Know? The Battle of the Bulge was the largest land battle fought by the U.S. Army in World War II, involving over 600,000 troops. Despite bitter cold, supply shortages, and relentless attacks, Allied forces persevered, turning the tide against Nazi Germany.

🌟 At the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center, we’re proud to honor the legacy of the soldiers who fought in this historic battle. Our collection includes authentic artifacts, photographs, and stories that capture the experiences of those who endured the harsh conditions and fierce combat of this critical campaign.
